UK SPINE Brings Industry, Academics, and Clinicians Together to Discuss Healthy Ageing
On 9th October 2019 UK SPINE hosted its first industry engagement event in the impressive surroundings of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government. Co-hosted with Oxford’s Business Development team, the event used the innovative AIMday format pioneered by the University of Uppsala.
Fourteen innovative companies working to improve health in old age attended the event. They able to meet and discuss their challenges with 40 academics, clinicians, and other representatives from UK SPINE hubs and the NHS. The day was packed with opportunities for cross-disciplinary discussions and networking, with topics ranging from the underlying biology of ageing to monitoring technologies used in the care of older adults.
UK SPINE will continue to support opportunities for academics and industry to discuss the challenges and opportunities of an ageing society. We will also seek to develop the many exciting conversations that took place at the AIMday into formal collaborations. This will form a key part of our mission to improve health in old age by accelerating the development of new therapies that target the underlying processes of ageing.
We look forward to continue working with all AIMday attendees in the future.
