Ageing clinical research – funding landscape in the UK

1. Background

Data extracted from National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) ODP database, highlights the number of clinical research studies funded by industry and public bodies.

From this dataset, it can be seen that the biggest funder within the ageing speciality is the NIHR, followed by the government and charities. The majority of non-commercial studies are intervention and observational studies. Industry funded trials are predominately drug trials.
